Jim Huff has been practicing law since 1984. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law and was admitted to the SC Bar in 1984. His first job was as a judicial law clerk to a circuit court judge.
From 1985 to 1988 Mr. Huff was an assistant solicitor for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit which includes Lexington, Saluda, McCormick and Edgefield counties. In 1991 he took the position of town attorney and prosecutor for Jackson, SC, where he served until 1996. In both of these positions he was responsible for the prosecution of all types of criminal cases. In 1988 he entered private practice. Though he has practiced in many areas of law, Mr. Huff has focused much of his practice on DUI and Criminal Defense. He also handles Workers' Compensation claims. He is licensed to practice in all South Carolina courts, the United States District Court of South Carolina, the United States 4th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Huff has co-authored numerous publications to aid attorneys in their defense of DUI and Traffic-related cases. These include the SC DUI Defense Manual, SC Traffic Lawyers Tool Kit, and Handling Traffic Cases in South Carolina (1st-6th editions).
Mr. Huff is a founding and current member of the SC Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (SCACDL). He served as president in 1996. He is one of only 100 attorneys nationwide that are founding members of the National College for DUI Defense (NCDD). He is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL).
Mr. Huff is a frequent speaker at DUI and Criminal Law related seminars. Mr. Huff annually trains Magistrate and Municipal judges in DUI and criminal law matters. He is certified on the DataMaster breath testing device as well as NHTSA’s Standardized Field Sobriety Testing.
